Green Building Technologies and Energy-Efficient Construction Practices

Abstract: In terms of total consumption of energy and energy-induced CO2 emissions in the world, the building industry consumes about a third of the share, thereby becoming a crucial frontier of climate change mitigation. This research paper analyzes extensively the technologies and techniques of green buildings and energy-efficient construction with respect to their efficacy in lowering energy consumption, limiting the environmental impact and improving quality of life of the occupants. With the help of assessment of passive design techniques, advanced building envelope, integration of renewables and Building Information Modeling (BIM), it is shown in this study that an integrated approach of green buildings can lead to saving energy by 30-50% when compared to traditional construction projects. The methods used in this research include the quantitative analysis of the performance metrics such as EPI, thermal transmittance or U-values, cost savings in operation. It is found out that use of Super-ECBC standards in combination with on-site renewables can save as much as 50% of energy consumption during operations.
