Abstract: This article investigates transgender identity by employing the philosophical concepts of residuum and emanation. Residuum is the persistent remnant of identity that persists despite suppression or erasure, while emanation is the outward expression of identity through embodiment, language, and social interaction. In this paper, the argument is made that transgender identity is a dynamic unfolding and an irreducible persistence, drawing on psychological, sociological, and cultural studies. The dual framework offers a conceptual lens that connects philosophy and lived experience, providing new insights into the politics of identity, recognition, and resilience.
